Heat Pumps

Service, Repairs & Planned Maintenance

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are now common across domestic & commercial properties on the Isle of Wight. What’s far less common is long-term technical support once the installation phase is over.

Vectis does not compete in the race to install heat pumps as cheaply as possible. Our focus is on reactive service, fault finding, repairs, and structured planned maintenance for heat pump systems that are already installed and need to work reliably year after year.

We approach heat pumps as what they fundamentally are: refrigeration systems designed for heating. That difference in mindset matters when performance drops, faults repeat, or responsibility becomes unclear.

Many heat pump issues are not catastrophic failures. They are quieter problems that slowly erode confidence:

  • Poor heating performance despite “everything looking fine”
  • Repeated faults that never quite get resolved
  • Defrost issues, icing, or nuisance lockouts
  • Control or configuration problems
  • Installers no longer available or unwilling to return
  • Warranty cases that stall due to poor diagnostics or unclear evidence

We are often called in once others have failed or given up. Recently, we successfully repaired a domestic heat pump system where multiple parties had been unable to reach a resolution.

That outcome came from methodical fault finding, refrigeration expertise, and evidence-led diagnosis, not guesswork.

We provide reactive service and breakdown response for domestic & commercial heat pump systems across the Isle of Wight.

Our engineers are experienced in diagnosing issues across:

  • Refrigerant circuits and system behaviour
  • Compressors, expansion control, and airflow
  • Defrost operation and low-ambient performance
  • Electrical faults, sensors, and controls
  • Poor commissioning or legacy installation issues

If a system is repairable, we will explain why and how. If the issue lies outside the equipment itself, we will say that too. Clear communication matters as much as the repair.

We currently provide service, repair, and planned maintenance support for the following domestic & commercial heat pump systems:

  • Air to Air heat pumps (reversible air conditioning systems)
  • Air to Water heat pumps (air source heat pumps for heating and hot water)
  • Ground Source heat pumps

We also support hybrid heat pump systems and exhaust air heat pumps, particularly where diagnosis spans multiple disciplines or system responsibility is unclear. In these cases, our focus is on evidence led fault finding and correct system behaviour rather than assumptions or trial-and error repairs.

Supporting heat pump equipment on an island presents logistical challenges. Ferry delays, repeat visits, and unclear diagnostics can quickly become costly and reputationally risky.

Vectis offers manufacturers and OEMs a competent, local service and repair partner on the Isle of Wight.

We are comfortable working within manufacturer warranty frameworks and providing the technical evidence required to support or challenge warranty decisions. Our reporting is clear, consistent, and backed by measured data and photographic evidence.

If your heat pump is underperforming, repeatedly faulting, or not delivering what you were promised, we can take a proper look.

If you are a manufacturer or OEM looking for reliable local support on the Isle of Wight, we should talk.

Heat pumps are not magic.
They are engineering.
Engineering responds to method, evidence, and experience.

A structured approach to planned maintenance

Heat pumps are often sold as “low maintenance”. In reality, systems that are not properly checked tend to lose efficiency quietly and fail earlier than expected.

Our heat pump maintenance visits are carried out using a structured inspection and reporting process developed from field experience, manufacturer guidance, and refrigeration best practice.

Planned maintenance focuses on:

  • Physical condition and airflow
  • Electrical condition with recorded running currents
  • Refrigeration system measurements where applicable
  • Heating performance, including flow, return, and delta-T
  • Visual and electronic leak inspection
  • Control operation and system logic
  • Photo documentation and clear engineer observations
  •

This approach builds a performance history for each system, highlights developing issues early, and provides meaningful evidence for homeowners and manufacturers alike.

Your Fast track to Sustainable Heat & Decarbonisation

For commercial companies and domestic properties alike, heat pumps are fast becoming the first choice for efficient, ultra-low-carbon, future proof heat, be this hot water and heating for homes or hotels, or central plant for district heating schemes or businesses decarbonisation strategies. In line with our sustainability goals, we are very happy to partner with Clade, a UK based commercial heat pump manufacturing company, to help our clients on their way to net zero.

Commercial

We have experience across a variety of commercial sectors. Our partner Clade has 35 years of engineering experience and is committed to using natural refrigerants in order to make the lowest impact on the climate. Like Vectis, Clade has high performance values and are so certain of the effectiveness of their systems, they offer a money back performance guarantee.

Domestic

The Vectis Refrigeration team has experience of fitting & retrofitting heat pump systems across a range of domestic environments, and as with all our services, our engineers are trained to the highest industry standards. We can manage your heat pump installation project from concept to delivery, and help you increase your efficiency and reduce your operating costs in the long run.

Based on the Isle of Wight. Here for the long term.

We work solely for island clients. There is no mainland call centre, no temporary labour, and no disappearing act once the paperwork is signed.

If we take responsibility for a heat pump system, we stand behind that responsibility.
